Preserved Southern Pacific steam locomotive # 4449 on display. Franklin Park Illinois. Saturday, August 1st 2009.

A rare treat for Chicago area railfans had occured on Saturday, August 1st 2009 in near northwest suburban Franklin Park Illinois. Coinciding with the recent "2009 Trainfest Convention" in Owosso Michigan, visiting Southern Pacific 1941 Lima Locomotive Works built GS-4 class Daylight steam locomotive # 4449 had visited Chicago and was on display in Franklin Park Illinois. The following day, this 4-8-4 Northern type locomotive would haul an excursion from Chicago to Milwaukee over the Canadian Pacific Railroad's former Milwaukee Road northline. After that, the locomotive would return to it's base of excursion operations at Portland Oregon.

We camped out in naperville for two hours to see this pass by. It stopped at the 5th ave. station for a few minutes, so we had a great chance to see it.
