Correction! Western Pacific solid orange and black economy paint scheme actually was introduced in 1966.
In a recent posting in regards to the fallen flag railroad Western Pacific and the use and experimentation of solid color schemes in later years, I originally had said that the WP had began experimenting and painting some locomotives in economical solid color schemes begining in the early 1970's.
It turns out, that while it was true that the WP used a bright combination of orange and silver paint for many years....The solid economical "Painter Friendly" color schemes began appearing in 1966. The example shown here, lasted from 1966 to 1975.
