The Grand Trunk Western Railroad Elsdon Yard locomotive terminal at West 49th Street and South Kedzie Avenue. (Gone) Chicago Illinois USA. 1977.
This historic photo comes to Eddie's Railfan Page from My links page Fallen Flags.Org to the right of Your computer screen.
This EMD Ist generation roadswitcher, was photographed just immediately west of the 1914 built GTW Elsdon Roundhouse on South Kedzie Avenue and approximately what would be West 49th Street. This engine and a few others, are idling on the ready tracks at the locomotive servicing terminal.
The Grand Trunk Western closed Elsdon Yard and the roundhouse locomotive servicing facility in October of 1983. The roundhouse was demolished around December of 1987.
Today, this is the site of an outdoor retail strip mall in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood.
