The Yellow Submarine Drive In Restaurant on South Archer Avenue. (Closed) Chicago Illinois USA. April 2007.
Hi everyone!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.
Before there were the mega Sub Shop Sandwich fast food chains like Subway and Quizno's, there were once many little Mom and Pop neighborhood establishments like the old roadside Baby Boomer era Yellow Submarine Drive In Restaurant on South Archer Avenue.
The Yellow Submarine, was a classic 1950's and 60's era roadside drive in restaurant with a walk up window. The Yellow Submarine was located on the south side of South Archer Avenue near the intersection of South Oak Park Avenue in Chicago's Garfield Ridge neighborhood near Midway Airport.
I took this random photo just for the heck of it one morning back in April of 2007. It was a good thing that I did, as this business had closed one year later. The last time I passed the old Yellow Submarine Drive In site, it was abandoned and all of the interior fixtures long removed. It was an empty gutted shell of a building waiting for a new business to hopefully open up there.
Still, The Yellow Submarine had a long run at this location for many years.
Thanks.
Eddie K.
