Western Maryland Shay 6 "The Return To Cass"

I found this unique tourist railroad video on You Tube this morning.

Shay steam locomotives with their unique sideways mounted verticle cyclinders and driveshafts connecting to the trucks, were built prior to 1929 at the Lima Locomotive Works of Lima Ohio.

This steam locomotive design, was used in logging, mining and industrial applications. Western Maryland Railroad Shay locomotive #6, originally pulled heavy coal trains on an industrial branchline serving a large coal mine.

Preserved and operated today at the Cass Scenic Railroad in Cass West Virginia USA, this locomotive now pulls slow leisurely paced passenger trains on this tourist railroad.
