Eastbound Burlington Northern freight train. Berwyn Illinois USA. July 1985.
I took this photo on a hot summer afternoon in July of 1985. An eastbound Burlington Northern freight train is viewed alongside Windsor Street near the Berwyn commuter rail station at Oak Park Avenue. The lead locomotive on the head end of this heavy freight train, is an EMD model GP-50 roadswitcher. The Burlington Northern EMD model GP-50 roadswitchers, were painted in this experimental orange and black striped color scheme. Many local Chicago area railfans refered to them as Tiger Striped Geep 50's. ( Geep is pronounced "Jeep") The train is viewed slowing down on the approach to the nearby BN Clyde Yard in west suburban Cicero Illinois.
