The Greater Chicago Water reclamation District enginehouse. Stickney Illinois. September 2006,

I took this photo after work one late afternoon, in September of 2006. We are on top of the South Central Avenue overpass bridge, just north of the Illinois U.S Route # I-55 Stevenson Expressway in Stickney Illinois, just west of the village of Cicero Illinois. Looking east from on top of the South Central Avenue overpass bridge near Pershing Road, we see the enginehouse of one of the Greater Chicagoland Area's unremarked industrial shortline railroads.

Known in years past as the Chicago Sanitary District, the name was formerly changed to the Greater Chicago Water reclamation District during the 1980's. This industrial railroad, services a water and sewer treatment plant alongside the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. Dump cars of treated sewer solid waste, are taken to one of a handful of trackside dump facilities between Chicago and Willow Springs Illinois.
The line utilizes 3 1951 vintage EMD model SW-1 yard switchers, and one larger 1975 vintage EMD model MP-15 yard switcher.
