I took this now rare night time photo at the Grand Trunk Western Railroad's Elsdon Yard locomotive terminal, on a chilly early Springtime night in April of 1983. This photo location, is on the ready tracks just west of the 1914 built steam era Elsdon Roundhouse, wich was located on South Kedzie Avenue at approximately what would be West 49th Street. This EMD yard switcher, is idling in the terminal between switching assignments, during the last Springtime of operations at the old Elsdon facility. This was also one of My early 35 MM night time photographs.
Elsdon Yard closed in October of 1983.
Today, this is the site of a small outdoor retail strip mall adjacent to the Chicago Transit Authority's Orange line rapid transit to Midway Airport.
