Current BNSF and past A,T & S,F covered hoppers. Chicago Illinois USA. Saturday, October 15th, 2011.

I took this photo this past saturday morning.

An eastbound Norfolk Southern / BNSF transfer freight train, is viewed heading eastbound after entering the Chicago side of the Belt Railway of Chicago Clearing Yard east of South Cicero Avenue.

What were the chances of ever capturing this interesting comparison of current and fallen flag railroad equipment in the same train?

In the year of 1995, the Burlington Northern Railroad, and the Atchinson, Topeka & Sant Fe Railroad had merged, and became todays BNSF Railway.

A covered hopper from the current BNSF Railway, is viewed coupled to a short covered hopper car from the predecessor railroad Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe.

This photo was taken just east, of the Belt Railway of Chicago's West 68th Street Wye interchange connection near Chicago's Midway Airport.
