I found this historic photograph from the former Grand Trunk Western Railroad at My Link page Fallen Flags.Org, located to the right of Your computer screen at http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/

This photograph was taken by railfan photographer J.R Quinn at a location that was very dear to Me.

GTW EMD GP 9 locomotive # 4555, is photographed on October 22nd 1977, at the now long gone Grand Trunk Western Railroad Elsdon Yard locomotive terminal. This locomotive and the one coupled to it on the left, are just immediately west of the Elsdon Roundhouse at approximately West 49th Street and South Kedzie Avenue in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood on the southwest side of the city.

I was attending My Freshman Year at nearby Curie High School when this photograph was taken, and was getting to know the GTW Elsdon Yard, the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad's Stockyards Branch, and the Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad's Corwith Yard, wich were all located near Curie High School.

Who knows?  I just may have spotted railfan photographer J.R Quinn back then on location, and proboubly didn't even know it.

This is a wonderful photograph from a location I had come to know and love in Chicago back then.

Thanks.
Eddie K.
