I found this historic photograph from the former Western Pacific Railroad at My Link page Yesteryear Depot.Com, located to the right of Your computer screen at http://www.yesteryeardepot.com/

Railfan photographer Fred C. Stoes, captured Western Pacific Railroad 2-8-0 steam locomotive # 42, leading an eastbound freight train over the west slope of Altamont Pass in northern California.

Although no date was given, I am willing to say that this photograph was taken during the 1940's.

Even though I was born and raised in Chicago, and lived absolutely nowhere near the Western Pacific, the W P was always one of My favorite railroads.

The Western Pacific was acquired through merger by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1982.

Thanks.
Eddie K.
