We are looking south from inside the tiny Central Illinois Railroad's locomotive yard and headquarters. This facility is located at 918 west Cermak Road in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood on Chicago's near southside. The Central Illinois Railroad photographers open house, was scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM at their yard and headquarters. Myself, and fellow railfans were begining to arrive around the time of this photograph. Seen here is an elderly rebuilt 1950's era EMD First Generation model SW-9 Yard Switcher locomotive, that was recently repainted into this 1950's and 60's vintage Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad "Blackbird" color scheme.
The Central Illinois Railroad, is a very "Railfan Friendly" shortline operation on Chicago's near southside. The headquarters located at 918 west Cermak Road, is just east of the intersection of Cermak and Canalport.
The former Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad, had switched the numerous industrial factory spur sidings on this line during the 1960's, with EMD switcher locomotives in this color scheme.
