Central Illinois Railroad switching local crossing South Ashland Avenue. Chicago Illinois. Friday, October 31st, 2008.

I took this photo while driving westbound on West Cermak Road in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. I was chasing a working switching local train, that was being demonstrated for visiting photographers at the Central Illinois Railroad Company's unofficial Open House gathering this day. Although the locomotives rear headlights were on at the time, this switching local was actually moving westbound across South Ashland Avenue. With it's black and gray quasi Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad pre 1970 colors, this train resembles the morning switching locals operated by the C,B & Q on this line during the 1950's and 60's. Everything old is new again.
