Freshly repainted Central Illinois Railroad # 1206. Chicago Illinois USA. Friday, October 31st, 2008.

Central Illinois Railroad # 1206. Chicago Illinois. Friday, October 31st, 2008.

On Friday morning, October 31st, 2008 I attended an unofficial railroad open house at the locomotive storage yard and headquarters, of the industrial shortline railroad Central Illinois Railroad. This railroad is a former Chicago, Burlington & Quincy / Burlington Northern industrial switching service branchline located in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood, with the office and locomotive storage yard located at 918 West Cermak Road.

The main event, was the debut of recently repainted former DRSX Rail Services rebuiilt 1950's era EMD model SW-9 Yard Switcher locomotive # 1206, in a quasi
1950's era Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad style color scheme. During the 1950's and 1960's era...The C,B & Q had switched this branchline with EMD SW series yard switchers in this color scheme. The sides of this locomotive read "Central Illinois", where as the C,B & Q switchers read "Everywhere West" on one side of the hood, while the other side read "Way of the Zephyrs" to promote their pre Amtrak passenger trains.
