The GTW interchange track at the former Grand Trunk Western RR Elsdon Yard. Chicago Illinois USA. January 2007.

The GTW interchange track at the former Grand Trunk Western Elsdon Yard site. Chicago Illinois. January 2007.

I took this photo facing south just north of West 51st Street, in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood. This is the interchange track that connected the Grand Trunk Western Elsdon Yard, with the nearby Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad Corwith Yard to the north of here. They were definately neighbors in Chicago.

The GTW closed Elsdon Yard in October of 1983, and today part of the old Elsdon site is being used by the succesor railroad Canadian National as a construction materials storage depot. Although not used as often in past years, the interchange track still connects to todays BNSF Railway Corwith Yard.

I used to love hanging out at this location from 1077 to 1981 when I attended nearby Curie High School. I loved coming here in the morning before schoo; would start.

Eddie,

There has been a CN/GTW through train that comes through about 3 pm during the week for Corwith Yard. This is in addition to the regular local that works in the morning...
