MTH O Guage models of Chicago Transit Authority 6000 series rapid transit cars on the stores in house elevated line. Chicagoland Hobby. Jan 2010.

Chicagoland Hobby. 6017 Northwest Highway. Chicago Illinois. January 2010.

I took this photo earlier this week during a lunchtime visit to Chicagoland Hobby at 6017 Northwest Highway on Chicago's far northwest side.

Seen here are operating O'Gauge MTH models of Chicago Transit Authority 1950's era 6000 series lightweight rapid transit cars. The prototype of these cars, were built at the St. Louis Car Company using salvaged electrical components from recently retired and scrapped CTA PCC electric streetcars.

The prototypes lasted in to the mid 1990's, and many have been preserved at various railroad museums.

The MTH models make periodic stops and starts, have lighted interiors, and an on board speaker calls off the upcoming station stops just like the real CTA did.
