A Chicago & Northwestern Railroad rebuilt EMD model GP -7 roadswitcher. Sterling Illinois USA. September 1985.

Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad EMD GP-7 road switcher. Sterling Illinois. September 1985.

On September 7th 1985, I went on a steam powered mainline fantrip with Chicago's 20th Century Railroad Club to Sterling Illinois and back over the Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad westline.

Although the star of the show that day was Nickle Plate Road 2-8-4 Berkshire class steam locomotive # 765 from the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society of Indiana, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to photograph this rebuilt Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad 1950's era EMD GP-7 roadswitcher at work in downtown Sterling Illinois.

I am so glad I did, because the C&NW was absorbed by the Union Pacific through merger in the year of 1995. The C&NW is another fallen flag railroad today.
