The Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe / Illinois Northern branchline local at work circa 1986. Chicago Illinois USA.
I took this photo I believe around June of 1986.
Seen here east of South Kedzie Avenue near West 28th Street, is the 5 day a week Santa Fe switching local that serviced the former Illinois Northern industrial shortline branch in Chicago;s Little Village neighborhood.
This local would depart from the A,T & S,F Corwith Yard around 10:00 AM Monday thru Friday, and head back to Corwith Yard around 3:00 PM. This local would travel as far east as the interchange with the Burlington Northern at South Western and Blue Island Avenues.
Today with one or possibly two industrial customers left that are only switched as needed, The succesor parent railroad BNSF Railway has filed a petition to abandone this line in recent years.
