Historic Photo! An Illinois Central Gulf piggyback train passing through Joliet Illinois. May 1982.
This early 1980's era photo comes to us via My links page Fallen Flags.Org
to the right of Your computer screen. Wearing the orange and white color scheme introduced by the Illinois Central way back in 1967, an Illinois Central Gulf piggyback train is seen here in May of 1982 passing through Joliet Illinois.
The train is traveling over the tracks of pre 1972 predecessor railroad Gulf, Mobile & Ohio. The Illinois Central and the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio merged in October of 1972 to become the Illinois Central Gulf, wich unfortunately was not successful in the long run financially.
