I absolutely love seeing those old historic Chicago area railroad photographs from decades past. This photo comes to You from My links page Fallen Flags.Org to the right of Your computer screen.

The Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad was one of those many North American railroads in a hurry to dieselize their operations after World War 2 had ended, and had completed the task in 1952.

Seen here somewhere on the south or southeast side of Chicago in the year of 1949, We see Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad 2-8-2 Mikado type steam locomotive # 260, taking on a load of coal at a local Chicago area railroad locomotive terminal. This is how the IHB locomotive servicing operations looked like during the final years of steam operation. To My knowledge, The IHB did not preserve any steam locmotives.
