Grand Trunk Western freight train rounding the southbound interchange curve at Hayford Junction. Chicago Illinois. January 1987.

I took this photo one Winter afternoon way back in January of 1987.

After a heavy all morning snowstorm had finally stopped falling on the city of Chicago Illinois, I siezed a great railfan photo opportunity and headed out to Hayford Junction.

Seen here is a Grand Trunk Western Railroad freight train that had just departed from the nearby Belt Railway of Chicago Clearing Yard. The train is turning south on the interchange on to the GTW rails at Hayford Junction. The rare black EMD roadswitcher was recently acquired from the Pitsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad.

Never knew the GT had an all-black loco like this. Great catch.
