Digital Live Sound Video: Eastbound Canadian Pacific short local freight train. Franklin Park Illinois USA. February 2010.

I photographed this digital live sound video during My lunch break one morning, in February 2010.

We are on location at the Ruby Street railroad crossing in near northwest suburban Franklin Park Illinois on a very sunny but bitterly cold winter morning. Seen here is a short eastbound Canadian Pacific 5 car local freight train with a former Milwaukee Road EMD road switcher locomotive up front. This train had just left the nearby Canadian Pacific ex Milwaukee Road Bensenville Yard near Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.

When the former Soo Line Railroad had acquired the very bankrupt Milwaukee Road through merger way back in 1985, it had simply painted a big black patch over the former Milwaukee Road markings. This color scheme became known as the "Black Beard" color scheme. The Canadian Pacific later absorbed the former Soo Line through merger in the year of 1990, but still has yet to repaint some of the former ex Milwaukee Road "Black Beard" units today. A project that was definately put on the back burner.
