Trolleybuses in an ice storm

I spotted this unique electric trolleybus video from the city of Dayton Ohio this morning on You Tube.

Chicago and many other citties in North America, once operated a network of electric powered trolleybus routes. While electric powered trolleybuses did not last in citties like Chicago Illinois, Milwaukee Wisconsin, New Orleans Louisiana, Denver Colorado, or Los Angeles California...Citties like Dayton Ohio, Philadelphia Pennsylvania and Seatle Washington, had good luck with them and decided to continue operating them today.

This video, shows a very unique side to electric trolleybus operations.

Wintertime, is a very unkind season when it comes to operating public transit equipment utilizing overhead wires. Sleet and ice have to be frequently scraped off of the wires.
This video shows two Miami Valley Transit Authority (Dayton Ohio) electric trolleybuses, operating during a brutal December 1999 winter ice storm one night.

Sparks flying off of the overhead trolley wires and spring loaded roof top trolley poles, are a part of electric trolleybus operation that many people do not get to experience.

I did growing up in Chicago during the 1960's and early 1970's era.

Thanks.
Eddie K.

BTW, those overhead trolley wires are energized at 600 volts DC.
