Electric streetcars and street railways, have always had a special fascination for Me.

Although I was born too late to experience them first hand in Chicago and many other places in North America, the many stories I have been told by older people who lived in those times and the photos on the internet, give Me an idea of what it must have been like.

This photo was taken in Ithaca New York, way back in the year of 1935. America was in the midst of the infamous Great Depression at this time, and many electric streetcar companies would fold during this period due to extreme financial difficulties and bankruptcy.

1935, would also be the last year of electric streetcar operation in Ithaca New York as well. This photo from the Wayne Roberts collection, was proboubly one of the last ones prior to the end of service.
